How Much Filler Do You Actually Need?
Every one of our 32-inch Mexican star piñatas — Hot Pink, Emerald Green, Electric Blue, Rainbow Brights, Dopamine Brights, Glittery Gold, USA, Pink & Green, and Salsa Red — holds up to 4 lbs of filler. The Extra Strong Salsa Red has thicker Velcro closures and is designed to hold up to 4.5 lbs of filler. The Jumbo (33") holds a bit more, and the GIANT 52-inch Patriotic Piñata is built for a real crowd, holding about 6 lbs of candy.

Can I fill a piñata with something other than candy? Of course! Small toys, temporary tattoos, glow sticks, stickers, and (for adult parties) mini bottles or gift cards all work great and add an element of surprise when the piñata breaks.

Do heavier fillers damage the piñata? Stick to the piñata's stated capacity (about 4 lbs for our standard size). Our Extra Strong Salsa Red Piñata is built to handle a bit more abuse if you're filling it heavier or expecting a rowdier crowd. Overfilling it, or not securing the closures tightly, can cause candy to spill out mid-party.
A note on filling a TexMex piñata: make sure the 4 Velcro closures at the top of the piñata are securely shut before you start swinging. It's a tight fit (here's a video to guide you), but they're made to hold while the piñata is taking hits. Also, hang the piñata high enough that folks can't strike the opening directly — that will help keep your filler secure during the beating.
